I'm having the same issue. Compiled sources from 3 days ago. The same thing happens to me on KDE 4.0.98 on OpenSuse 11.0 and fedora 9. And the same thing happens to Login Manager themes. I would not generally mention this, but I feel that they are connected to the same engine. *** Bug 165691 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 167323 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Basically, I can confirm that behaviour. The cause seems to be, that the plasmoids on kde-look.org are only provided as source code, not as plasmagik packages. The applet installer should check the package format and give a user response. If that is the problem, instead of plasma checking the type, can kde-look have a separate repository just for plasmagik packages? That should make things easier for the plasma devs. Is there a tool available which can take the source, compile it and finally package as a plasmagik? That should lure the plasmoid contributors in creating plasmagiks. *** Bug 167876 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 165253 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I have the same trouble. Confirmed, kde 4.1 Same problem here, i'm using KDE 4.1 on Debian experimental. In the .xsession-errors log: Installation of /tmp/kde-ferdinand///78061-plasma-applet-quicklauncher-0.3.tar.gz failed. Yes, the same problem with 4.1 and openSUSE 11.0. One of the main features of KDE4 is still not working... Even if it is a problem of kde-look.org, the installer should not report success ! Coming from the other side: in which case will the installation process fail ? ;-) I agree. Better not offer such a feature, if it does not work. This is one of the features many new user will try first! This is known since kde-4.0. |
