Open the Add widgets dialog so that you can see a plasmoid in the list which is on the desktop/panel. Delete that plasmoid using its handle. The counter in the dialog does not change until you move the mouse over the list.

This is a really fiddly bug that might originate in Qt.  I suspect it might be related to Bug 163648.

ok reproduced with kde 4.2, as told you have to move the mouse over the list, move the window or select any line of the window

Reproduced in svn trunk 954171 (kde 4.2.70) using opensuse packages and qt 4.5.1.

This issue is not applicable to the new widget explorer, and probably not worth pursuing further.
