Thanks for the report, but I'd please need more information what might be the problem in your case: - Did you turn on Strigi/Nepomuk? - Do you have the same problem when using the file-dialog e. g. in KWrite? - Could you have a look which process takes so much performance (Alt+F2)? Thanks in advance! On my P4 3G6 with 2Gb RAM, dolphin hangs if I "open" a directory with large files. I.e. 1 folder with two ISO's makes dolphin "hang" for as long it has taken me to go through this bug reporting sequence, and it is still not responsive :-( I have not, as far as I remember turned preview on, but still if I had, the preview should have been a "forked" process, so dolphin could continue working? I can see when running top that dolphin is trying to read the files which on 4Gb files of course DOES take a long time. Especieally when the files are located on an NFS server. So the preview thingy should be deoupled from dolphin in some way. Do you have a recent SVN version (means: < 5 days old)? There have been made several strigi related fixes during the last days, which resulted in a "hanging Dolphin". hi, i have the same problem and for me it seems to be strigi related. if i turn of the information panel, dolphin is as fast as usual. felix Could you please check which strigi version you have ('strigidaemon --version')? A version >= 0.5.11 is required... I can confirm, that if you turn of the Information-panel, dolphin seems to be faster, especially if you use the detailed informationen mode (CTRL+2). The output from strigidaemon --version is 0.5.11 A can confirm here, Dolphin is slow, and worse with info panel. Sometimes I lost my pacience and use XFE or nautilus to navigate into my files. I'm using Debian SID with KDE 4.1.1 My machine: - Pentium IV 3 GHz - 1GB RAM - Video GeForce4 FX5500 256MB I confirm this bug on debian Lenny + kde4(4.1.1). If I close the info panel dolphin is faster. Core 2 T2300 1.6Ghz 1GB RAM Geforce GO 7400 256 MB (Using the last nvidia beta driver) The issue is related to Strigi/Nepomuk. I'll check with the maintainers what we can do to solve this... The issue has been fixed for KDE 4.2. |
