You may know this from a text frame. e.g. in KWord 2.x: Move another shape to overlap it and see the text flow around the shape to stay uncovered.

Would be cool if icons do like the text if one moves the clock or other plasmoids inside a folderview, at least in icon view mode.

this would require widgets to be aware of and react to each other; this would not work the same for all widgets, and currently widgets are prevented from overlapping anyways.
