Sentry Crash Report:

Description mi+kde 2008-06-08 20:57:03 UTC
Version: 0.50.1 (using 4.0.3 (KDE 4.0.3), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-18-generic

I decided to give Kubuntu (Hardy Heron) a try, and installed it on a laptop. When I transfered my home-directory from the old machine (FreeBSD running KDE-3.5.8), and tried Kopete, it did not have ANY account information...

I'm not sure, whether this is a ~/.kde4 vs. ~/.kde issue or what...

It will not loose most of settings if it can find the old settings. Most probably you use the wrong settings folder (just try both .kde and .kde4).
