I can confirm that this happens, with kopete 0.50.80 on kde 4.1 beta 2 Hi, can you try packet sniffing and see what might be causing this? Are you behind a firewall, proxy, NAT, etc.?

Hi, I will attempt to packet sniff this and get back to you. In the meantime, I do have a firewall in my router, but this is set out to let me out (and in) on the specified port. Is it that Yahoo sometimes tries to connect back on another port? I am behind a NAT too, but a fixed IP external and fixed internal IP, there shouldn't be an issue, but the packet sniffing will tell me. No Proxies. As mentioned, most of the time it connects and immediately disconnects. If I reconnect repeatedly, occasionally it will connect me and stay connected. Nobody else could replicated it. So it certainly isn't something everyone was seeing. It was working fine with pidgin though. I have been able to consistently reproduce this in recent trunk for a while now. I will attach a network trace. If I repeatedly try to connect (I mean like, a dozen or more times), after a while it will connect and stay connected. But then I hit bug 156296 (it disconnects), and the cycle repeats. Hrm, after looking it over, the network trace has enough personal information in it that I'm not comfortable posting it on a public Bugzilla. If a dev would like to look at it, please feel free to email me privately. I'm experiencing the same behaviour on opensuse 11.1 with kopete 0.70.0 and kde 4.2.0. I've had similar issues before and from what I remember the cause was my contact list being too large. also, I've noticed that sometimes, when there are few people online in my contact list I can connect just fine (tested late at night). I can confirm this bug. I have experienced the exact same thing on both KDE 4.1 and 4.2 in Arch Linux. I can also confirm this on kde 4.2 in kubuntu. The best solution I have found so far is to SWITCH TO PIDGIN because no one seems to be interested in fixing this and that makes kopete not useful. I am also experiencing problems with kopete when connecting to Yahoo. I use FreeBSD 6.4, KDE4.1.4 built from ports, kopete 0.60.4. Same error as noted above: 17 - remote host closed connection. I also have KDE 3.5.10 installed and its version of kopete 0.12.7. This KDE3 version experiences no problems. It works when using desktop 3.5.10. And it works when executed from desktop 4.1.4. On FreeBSD the KDE4 files are installed into /usr/local/kde4/ tree. The KDE3 files are in /usr/local/ tree. So in 4.1.4 konsole, I can execute /usr/local/bin/kopete to run version 0.12.7. I've gotten packet dumps from several folks (thanks!) and can't see anything that's going wrong (yet). If someone could provide debug output (yahoo only - use kdebugdialog to turn off all of the kopete debug output except for the two yahoo areas) and either send it to me privately via email or attach it to this bug report, that would be awesome.
