Description Ben Boeckel 2008-06-03 21:37:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.4)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux

The open with dialog in KDE does not offer much flexibility. It asks to either save, open with a known program or cancel. The user cannot choose a different app to open with or to tell the application to not bother with the file. It most commonly happens with Konqueror with SWF objects (no flash plugin) which asks me to save, open with VLC (I'd rather Kaffeine if I would open it, but I can't choose that if I'd like), or cancel. If I mark "don't ask me again", I can't confirm the dialog to actually not show it again without doing something (save or open) since choosing cancel ignores the checkbox.

Since open with now works as wished (also by me: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137683 ), the only missing part is rather renaming cancel to ignore, and of course remembering the "don't ask" when ignore is chosen.

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.

Greetings
