> 15-20 seconds. you have an exceptionally slow system. what video card, video driver and x.org combination are you using? > I suspect it needs some time for "initialisation"? yes. > the dashboard is already loaded at that time, isn't it? no. Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M, xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173.08-1.lvn9.x86_64, xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.4.99.901-29.20080415.fc9.x86_64, xorg-x11-server-utils-7.3-3.fc9.x86_64 Using that nvidia-driver with -ignoreABI I confirm that it is slow on first time use .. hey but 15 seconds is very slow .. It takes like 4-5 seconds on my PC. And this happens only when calling CTRL+F12 "for the first time" using latest NVIDIA driver, and 512MB VGA NVIDIA Geforce 8600 KDE 4.0.5 Hey Aaron if this is related to this bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155678 and something is wrong in x.org .. then you need to close some bugs ;) regards I confirm this bug on my OpenSuse 11.0 with KDE 4 with the newest drivers from NVIDIA for GF6600. In my case is about 3-5 seconds and it's really annoying. Yeah.. it takes some time to load on my system too (3-5 seconds) :-( My System: Intel Pentium D805(@3,9GHz), 2GB DDR2 667Mhz, NVIDIA 8800GTS 640MB (nvidia 173.14.09), openSUSE 11.0 x86 happens in trunk compiled from source (on the above system) and also on precompiled packages from opensuse (it has been so slow since dashboard has been introduced). imho the dashboard should be preloaded in the background! (or at least it's startuptime should be improved a lot) Bemhard, but there is no problem with that when you use other graphics card (even not very good such as laptop Intel card), so the problems isn't in preloading dashboard. When I minimize all running programs I see the very same dashboard, don't I? And that one is simply there (quick). I expected the hotkey to just "bring the workspace to front". |
