I recently installed OpenBSD 4.3 after getting used to and appreciating the 4.2 version with KDE 3.5.7. After installing KDE 3.5.8 with all its sub-packages I don't get any menu, no clock or anything else in the panel. None of the three default shortcuts on the desktop works. When just running "startx" without starting KDE some of the applications can run, like Konqueror, but if I use the menus, it locks up and I have to shut it down through X (or fvwm, maybe). This never happened with my OpenBSD 4.2 install. I don't know if it's related to KDE or OpenBSD. I've tried Gnome as well and it's the same thing, no menu or working panel.

If you've had the same problem with gnome, this probably means a problem with the system itself, not gnome/kde. Did you check the OpenBSD forums or his bug tracking system?

I've searched the bug tracking system and checked some BSD forums, but haven't found any relating topics. I also don't remember linking the /etc/xdg/applications.menu file the last time I installed, but not doing it hasn't helped either. The only difference on my machine since OpenBSD 4.2 is the monitor, which can't be of any importance, since it was present at the 4.3 install. But just in case it's some minor adjustment I've missed, I'll send a report to the OpenBSD bug tracker as well...

I have also gotten an error message after running kbuildsycoca:

As FiNeX pointed out, if KDE and Gnome have the same issue, it is really unlikely that it's a problem with KDE, and much more likely a problem with the system itself. I'm going to close this bug, but if you can provide more information that might help us resolve the issue, please feel free to reopen it.
