Gilles, I wonder if this would fit in with (/me checks the project names again) Akonadi (we discussed on IRC)... Create a UPNP backend and it should "just work" (if Digikam was based on Akonadi). Marcel, What do you think about ? Gilles Colin: Akonadi is the PIM storage. Where does it fit in? Gilles: One thing is to be able to view the pictures on a UPnp server. That can be done if we have client libs accessible for the protocol. The second thing is real integration of the pictures in the database. If they are uniquely identifiable from the server, I think this could not be different at all from images on a Network share? There will be difficulties if the access to the files does not go the the filesystem via the kernel but through some userspace lib. All direct access (libkexiv2, image editing, preview generation...) need direct file access and will always need that, in the basic layer. Marcel, I move this file into DLNA component from kipi-plugins, for the future... I think the best idea is to be able to import images or preview images from a DLNA server. The idea to use DLNA repository as database is not the best way... Gilles Caulier This file sound like out of the scope of digiKam. Gilles Caulier I re-visite this file, because with 5.8.0 release, a new UPNP/DLNA server was included in digiKam core, and also Showfoto. It will be possible to share Albums, Tags, Searches, and Labels. The contents will be available on tablets, phone, TV, and computer where relevant application compatible with Upnp/Dlna will be installed.
