Reproducing is difficult: that is way I will attach a couple of screencast.

The plasma desktop disappears and the panel becomes invisible...

That is maybe related to opening firefox...

I'm using a NVIDIA FX 5600 with restricted drivers.

I see improvements here... just sometimes (really not often) the panel shows the bug.

I noticed it always happens when openoffice or firefox are running.

this is an upstream nvidia bug to do with argb visuals
