Description Bichoy 2008-03-19 14:00:58 UTC
Version: unknown (using 3.5.7, compiled sources)
Compiler: Target: i586-mandriva-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22.18-server-1mdv

When I use KDE desktop with Compiz Fusion 3D effects, I can't use screen saver at all; here it is:

When 3D desktop effects are enabled and screen saver starts, KDE hangs up completely and don't respond to any actions. I must RESET my computer or turn off the power.

Also, sometimes, this doesn't happen instead the screen saver is shown within a window on the lower right corner (as if displaced from its normal position: the full screen). Again can't restore my computer out of it. Must RESET.

Did you even try to switch to a shell (CTRL+ALT+F1 for example) or use the magic SysRq keys?
Comment 2 Bichoy 2008-03-22 19:13:42 UTC
Really I didn't,
But I think the keyboard becomes completely DEAD.
The simple test I used to do in this case:
I try to toggle the NUM-LOCK it dosn't respond.
Also the Caps-lock: can't be turned on or off in this black screen.
( after resuming from the screen saver I get a black screen).
so I say the keyboard is completely dead......

Additional information that I think valuable:

My Graphics card is NVIDIA 8800 GT and I am using the driver
from NVIDIA web site (actually the driver needed to build my kernel as
usual).

I think also this problem is from X or some problem with Compiz and X....
KDE is absolutely stable without Compiz......

Thanks alot for your attention,
wishing to see the best KDE ever ..

KDE provides only user-space applications and as such it cannot completely lock up your entire computer -> X bug.
Comment 4 Bichoy 2008-03-31 12:29:33 UTC
It seems right X-bug. I started to have similar problem with other full
screen applications other than Compiz.....
as for example runing the 3D game Armagetron ......
I will report to nVIDIA.
