Version:           0.0.1 (using 4.0.2 (KDE 4.0.2) "release 12.1", compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.22.17-0.1-default

Plasma crashes of KDE Startup, shows a Crash Message and then reloads into a proper working state

and also, try to move your $HOME/.kde and $HOME/.kde4 directories to some other place, then reboot and see what happens.
Perhaps you installed kde4 over a kde 3.5.x version ?
