Description HCHRIST 2008-03-05 20:53:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

When I've entered my username and password, KDE 4.0.2 starts with the initialization sequence. After de desktop has been initialized, the startup sequences gets to the big K. But that one never makes it to blinking. The whole system freezes, and the only way to use the computer again is by rebooting (and then using KDE3.5.9). This also happens from a live CD from Ubuntu.
Currently, when I want to start KDE4, I have installed it alongside KDE3.5.9, so I have to choose it explicitely when logging in.

I have also had a bug like this. The kde 4 starts and the screen shows that it is loading but then only get a white screen after a signal 11 on plasma and nothing works but the crt alt delete to logout. I have the crash log to upload but thought before I do that I would post here to see if a fix is available yet. Thank you.

If the computer freezes completely and not even e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F1 works, then it is a kernel or X problem. KDE itself cannot completely freeze the system.

Latest KDE update fixed the problem.
