Enabling the "Use system bell ..." setting in System Settings -> Notifications -> System Bell isn't enough to enable the system bell beep. You also have to enable "Use system bell" in the Accessibility -> Bell module which took me quite some time to figure out.

I would say that this is a dupe. As FiNeX pointed out in the other bug. the problem still exists in KDE 4.2.x.
