Description Jeremy LaCroix 2008-03-03 19:50:14 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.1)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I'm using KDE 4.0.1 with Ubuntu.

I don't like the menu layout that my distribution provides, so with every KDE version I've ever used the first thing I do when I install the distribution is use kmenuedit to change the kmenu to my liking. I change the names of the icons, sort them, and delete the icons I don't like.

This has worked fine with every KDE version prior to KDE4. With KDE4, after I update the menu using kmenuedit, when I log out and log back in, most of the icons in the kmenu are changed to question marks.

For example, I may find several icons under "lost and found". I then use kmenuedit to move those icons to their proper places. I sometimes rename them to simplify them if I so desire. I log out, and log back in, and the icons are unset and changed to question marks.

One time this happened when I renamed "GNU Image Manipulation Program" to simply "Gimp" and later the icon changed to a question mark.

This happens with QT apps too. The KDE4 version of Juk was one of them. There are many more.

This problem seems to only effect whatever icon I change, and is not discriminitory on GTK, or QT apps.

Also, an unrelated note, in KDE3.x.x you could choose to sort the icons in the menu by name or description - name, etc. Is there a way to do that in KDE4?

Fixed in KDE 4.0.3 therefore I am closing the report.
