Description Thomas Meyer 2008-02-16 23:11:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: Gentoo 4.2.2 p1.0
OS: Linux

mark a text in konsole and try to paste it via middle mouse button in a new email in thunderbird doesn't work for me under kde4.

Cutting&pasting from konsole (mark text and paste it via pressing the middle mouse button) in konqueror does work!

I'm not running klipper.

1. Can you copy and paste text from Konsole to Thunderbird (select, then Edit -> Copy in Konsole and Edit -> Paste in Thunderbird)

2. Can you copy and paste text from Konsole to non-KDE 4 applications other than Thunderbird?

Yes. This works.

> 2. Can you copy and paste text from Konsole to non-KDE 4 applications other than Thunderbird?
Yes.

and here comes the strange thing:
I can "X copy&paste" (what's the correct wording?) from konsole to a new mail in thunderbird to
a.) the adress line
b.) the title line
but not to the text body of a new mail!

How is that possible?

When you mark text using the mouse that is "creating a selection". This bug is about selecting & paste rather than copy & paste, which is a little odd.

The text body is probably a different type of control which supports more formats than the single-line entries. Can you try selecting and pasting text from Konsole into other text controls (single-line ones and multi-line ones) elsewhere in Thunderbird and see if this only happens with multi-line controls?

Does this apply to Firefox as well? Since it shares the same user interface toolkit.

Yes, indeed. Very odd.

Selection&Paste seems to work everywhere in Thunderbird, besides the text body.

> Does this apply to Firefox as well? Since it shares the same user interface toolkit.
Yes. I tested it with firefox and oowriter.

But this seems not to be a konsole error. It's more a strange selection error.

kde-3-5.8:
selection&paste from xclip input file to oowriter works.
selection&paste from xclip input file to thunderbird text body doesn't work.
selection&paste from konsole to thunderbird text body works.

kde-4:
selection&paste from xclip input file to oowriter works.
selection&paste from xclip input file to thunderbird text body doesn't work.
selection&paste from konsole to thunderbird text body doesn't work

Strange, strange.

Indeed. I suspect this is a problem with Thunderbird.
