this is either an installation or packaging problem; it works fine in upstream sources. if you have a ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc file, try stopping plasma (kquitapp plasma), removing that file and then trying again. there was a bug in 4.0.0 that could lead to panel loss due if a crash occured at just the "right" (or, rather, wrong ;) time resulting in an incomplete configuration save. that has been fixed, however, and is the only thing i'm aware of that was in the plasma codebase that was creating such a problem. Thanks. That did the trick. Note that the file was in .kde4 and not .kde. I renamed it and on starting KDE4, the panel appeared. Tom. *** Bug 161030 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I've tried this (with .kde4) and it still doesn't work, even after logging out, restarting the X server and logging back in. I'm using Kubuntu Hardy Heron. Request that this bug be reopened. no, because the bug has been fixed. there's no point in opening a bug that's been fixed just because you aren't using a version with the fix in it =) Then what do I need to do to get the fix, given that I'm using Kubuntu? |
