It is a temporary settings until we (I?) implement a "halo" effect around the icon text a la kde3. Ok, good to know. Will have a look at SVN :) it would be nice to have the power to choose how do you want your(s) icon(s). but too many options scare people :) it seems like the suse live cd fixed that issue (http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/KDE-Four-Live.i686-1.0.4.png) but in other live cds (e.g. fedora) there is still a dark background.
