Sentry Crash Report:

Description Steve 2008-02-05 21:37:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I recently installed KDE 4.0 on my ubuntu 7.10 machine, with an AMD 64 bit processor, ATI radeon X1600XT graphics card. At first it ran decently, though it obviously didn't like my proprietary ATI drivers, as anything even remotely graphics intensive (moving windows, for example) was very slow. I was looking at the various settings, and against my better judgment, tried enabling 3d effects. It said they were enabled, but if it was even trying to perform the effects, there was no evidence of it. I also changed my desktop background. I logged out and logged back in, and my desktop background had been reset, and the only thing on my desktop was the add widgets button (no bar at the bottom at all). I disabled the 3d effects and restarted the computer, but the problem has persisted. When I try and open display settings, I get a signal 6 SIGABRT, I'll include the backtrace at the end of the report. Also, sometimes, when shutting down the computer, plasma experiences a signal 6 as well(I haven't gotten the backtrace from this yet). Here's the backtrace for the display settings crash:

For now I'm content using gnome, but I'd at least like to see what all the fuss about kde is, and I'll have to get past this first. Thanks!
