i don't think this is coming from krunner but from kdelibs. will try and test with an smb share when i get time. Works for me, using 4.0 opensuse packages. I tried using (on the same computer where I have the problem using kubuntu packages) the KDE-4-Live live cd, that is OpenSuSE-based, but I get exactly the same error from KRunner (and here too, everything works perfectly when I enter a smb:// address in dolphin). Now I'm also able to provide the exact English error message: "smb://host/folder/ is a folder, but a file was expected.".
