this not a plasma bug. it's a problem somewhere in ksycoca/KServiceTypeTrader/the .desktop file. it's a known issue, and was thought to have been fixed but evidently isn't. This appears to be by design. Have a look at Kickoff::systemApplicationList() in kickoff/core/models.cpp and ApplicationModelPrivate::fillNode() in kickoff/core/applicationmodel.cpp. Would the preferred behaviour be for System Settings to not show under Applications but still be searchable? It should definitely be searchable, since there is no hint whatsoever that the search in kickoff is restricted to the applications-tab only. Gone in my menu as well. I have KDE 3 installed as well and that doesn't appear either. If the intention is to hide System Settings from users then I strongly disadvise this - a lot of the system settings are for the user like appearance etc. so no reason to hide these as its only a frustration. I thought General and Advanced tabs in system settings were the sensible way of separating. Can reproduce on svn trunk r827914 it shows up in searches here, and is also on the first page. works nicely and reliably at this point. I'm using the traditional menu mode and think it should be in 'Settings' submenu. Now it got lost completely in f9, Kevin is working to get it back. |
