Using digikam, the basic digikam slideshow and the "advanced slideshow" from the kipi-plugins behave differently when a rating filter is applied to a given album (i.e. only pictures with a minimal rating of X stars are shown): Whereas the basic slideshow only loops through the pictures matching the filter, the advanced slideshow ignores the filter settings.

This file still valid using kipi-plugins 0.1.6 and digiKam 0.9.4 ?

I don't think it is possible to filter the images by rating, but I fixed the plugin in current SVN so that it finally accepts a selection of images again.

What you can do now is filter by rating, select all images (CTRL+A) and start the Advanced Slideshow plugin.

I will close this report, if you don't like this solution, feel free to re-open it again. But I guess it is simply not possible to tell KIPI that we filter the albums in digiKam at the moment.
