this looks like the same sort of problem as in BR155146 ... i wonder if it is indeed the same problem showing in two different ways. what video driver are you using? composite or not? Using nvidia driver provided by Kubuntu 7.10 I have composite off. if it's not toooo much trouble, could you switch to the open source driver and see if the same problem persists? or upgrade to the newest nvidia binary driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_169.07.html which has a bunch of argb fixes and see if that helps any? if not, i'll have to try and muddle through this as best i can without being able to reproduce and no real leads as to what the problem would be; i'll still do my best though ;) oh, and the reason that i think it may be driver related is that the argb issues are tiling related which may be why it happens at certain sizes (which probably equal the tile size) It is possible that I might be using the opensource driver, and not the nvidia one. When I logged back into my Kubuntu 3.5 session I had checked that I wanted to use the nvidia driver but it said I wasn't using it....but I guess thats a different story. I will try and load the beta driver and see if my machine will play nice. Well. The good news is that I can no longer reproduce this. The not as good news is that this is after a re-install of my system. I was using Kubuntu 64bit, but was having weirdness with my drivers it seems, so I opted to install Kubuntu 32bit over my other install. I have home on its own partition so it didn't take to long to get back up and running. I am now definitely using composite with the nvidia driver provided through Kubuntu. Everything is running along smoothly so far. right, so driver issues rather than plasma issues (i love x.org). thanks for keeping the report up to date =) oh, and just so we know it isn't 64 bit related: my main dev machine for plasma is an amd64 cpu. |
