Seems like this was done, before tagging of 4.0 took place. Thanks! The strigi searcher was disabled altogether, but for different reasons. Unless it is decided to not reenable it, this bug should be kept open to make sure the issue is fixed. what's the problem with showing additional items in the list? esp ones that will likely be of interest to many people? *shrug* @Jason: I see. You're right. Strigi is disabled. @Aaron: I think results including also configuration files (which are usually not of interest for non-technical users) just make the result list look more unfriendly to anyone who doesn't really need to know about the content of this files (like any non-technical user of KDE4). I'm not talking about hiding them generally - I for myself will surely use Strigi often to find config files + content - but it should be configurable whether these - for _probably 95%_ of the users unneccessary - results should be shown or not. and how do we know when that 5% is? i mean, that's why we show them last. and again, i'm really not sure what the real world problem is: do most (or even a significant # of) people actually feel they need to go through the whole list before making their choice? the whole idea is that if you don't find what you want at the top of the list, well then you get more options as you go down the list. the idea is to try to avoid dead ends for the user. there are two things that may help this in the future: a) we will provide a config dialog allowing users to turn on/off individual runners b) we won't be showing all icons in a full list but rather a paged display at some point i really don't see this BR#, as it stands, as being a serious issue. we have the ranking relevancy now and that's really what matters as far as addressing this issue. |
