3.97 tarball aka RC2:
After removing storage notifier from taskbar, it's completly messed up.

I can't reproduce this; I think it's been fixed recently. could you test again?
(btw, it's the panel, not the taskbar :)

I think this is a problem with the panel, not the notifier

Same here, though it's not messed up in the same way. 
And bug 154127 says that all plasmoids mess the pannel up when added.
