Since some days, kickoff doesn't restore background color (white?) when hovering off an item, leaving the gray highlight color. See attached png.

are you using the proprietary nvidia drivers in your x config?

Actually this is fixed for me, at the moment. Maybe the Qt 4.3.3 update?
