This button is used a lot, in KDE3 it has started irritating me, that the <Delete> button in the Location: bar is not next to the text, but on the left with the word "Location:" in between that and the URL.  As my next action, is to paste into the Location text field, it'd be better having the button close to the text, so I do not have to move the mouse so much.

Now in the KDE4 rc1 I am running, this button is way off to the right, Actually that means I can paste without moving off it very far, but getting there can be a long way.

Can the lazy user have these buttons left & right, as they use little space, but are frequently used, to cut down mouse mileage?

I don't think this is a konqueror issue: that "delete" icon is globally available on line text boxes. So, if you *really* need, I'll move to kdelibs/ui procut.

The problem has got worse with KDE4, now I've used 4.1.3 a bit recently, it is stil and issue.  The Delete Location: line is no longer on it's own but added to other icons, in a joint tool bar.

The need to delete entered text, in order to paste in, occurs most frequently in Konqi.  If you have to highlight, delete, and then reselect what to paste in Klipper, then re-paste a URL in (as in Firefox) it is even less ergonomic.  Whilst in theory I think you can decide to delete first, then click next to delete button and paste, in practice, I find it's almost impossible not to go to the text field first, then realise it's best to delete line.  This may be due to extensive training by the way other applications commonly work.

Can someone please, consider this very common usage, and reduce the mouse motion required?

Either having the delete button, near where  you're likely to edit the text at left, or duplicating the delete icon on right and left would reduce mouse movement.

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.
