I cannot configure Alt-Shift to switch between keyboard layouts. I can configure any other key combination that I want, but when I try "Alt-Shift" I get different results on different machines. No machine accepts it as a shortcut.

Machine 1 (whitebox Intel desktop):
Pressing "Alt-Shift" gives me "Shift+Shift_L". I've also tried "Shift+Alt", which sets "Alt+ISO_Prev_Group".

Machine 2 (whitebox AMD desktop):
The dialog box actually show "Alt+Shift", but as soon as I release the keys the dialog box shows the previous selection.

Machine 3 (Dell Inspiron laptop):
The dialog box actually show "Alt+Shift", but as soon as I release the keys the dialog box shows the previous selection. Pressing "Shift+Alt" shows "Win+Alt+Shift" in the dialog box, but as soon as the keys are released the dialog box shows the previous selection.

I've seen Bug# 73286 that implies a problem with the keyboard not sending the proper codes, however I know that Windows on both desktop machines does in fact work with Alt+Shift (it is the default key combination in that OS). I've never had Windows on the Dell to check. Also, Gnome on all three machines changes layout with Alt+Shift.

The bug is still not fixed.
I'm using Kubuntu 7.10 both on my laptop (HP dv5061ea - 64bit version) and my
desktop - 32 bit. Both machines use KDE 3.5.8 - the latest stable release today.
This is the printout of the version from the desktop.

Modifier-only shortcuts (like Alt+Shift) are not supported in kxkb in KDE3 and there's no easy way to add that support so KDE3 will never have this possibility.
Though they are supported in KDE4 so I am marking this as fixed.
