Description Ivo Emanuel Gonçalves 2007-09-02 00:16:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

Per Xiph's decision to modify their codecs and distribute them more evenly and logically, there are new files extensions and MIME types.

Amarok should be modified to support and recognize Ogg Audio, be it Vorbis, Speex, FLAC, or any other through the extension .oga and media type audio/ogg.

The file extension .ogg should still be associated with Vorbis for backwards-compatibility.
The file extension .spx should still be associated with Speex for backwards-compatibility.

More information available at //wiki.xiph.org/index.php/MIME_Types_and_File_Extensions

If possible, please make a patch for both Amarok 1.x and 2.

We get the list of supported filetypes from the engine, and the engine gets it from the backend (e.g. xinelib). Amarok itself doesn't distinguish between formats at all. So you should really submit this to the xine guys.

Just for the record: .desktop files need to support the mimetypes, too.
E.g. audio/ogg should get added there.

I was told in #amarok:
<hydrogen> pretty sure I fixed it in 2.0
