We get the list of supported filetypes from the engine, and the engine gets it from the backend (e.g. xinelib). Amarok itself doesn't distinguish between formats at all. So you should really submit this to the xine guys. Just for the record: .desktop files need to support the mimetypes, too. E.g. audio/ogg should get added there.
