Description Mark Halpaap 2000-11-07 17:35:57 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmix
Version: 1.90 (KDE 2.0)
Severity: normal
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
OS: Linux 2.2.16 i686 (compiled sources)

Config:
I have two devices which kmix can manage: es1371 & msp3400.
Both are compiled as kernel modules. the first one is always present
when KDE starts up so kmix can always find this device.
msp3400 is part of my tv card and only loaded on demand i.e. when
I start a tv app.

Problem:
Since kmix starts with KDE most of the time the msp3400 module
is not loaded so kmix does not find and configure this device. Later
when I start TV app kmix apparantly has to be completely restarted
in order to mix this device I found no way of adding this device on the fly
(File/New does not give me msp3400 to select.)

Changing severity to "wishlist" as this problem could easily be worked around by
loading the "msp3400" driver on boot.

Hint: An easy way to implement this except by a "rescan" menu item that quits and
restarts kmix completely.

This wish is open since about 3 years. As I said, the problem can be worked around
easily and I do not think I will ever put support for this in KMix. Closing bug,
category "WONTFIX".

Hotplugging is implemented in KMix in KDE3 => need to change resolution code.
Comment 4 Christian Esken 2008-01-12 11:08:22 UTC
Fixed in KDE4
