You can change the port for incoming notes, but you cannot change the port while sending notes (i.e. host:12000). If you change your port for incoming notes, nobody will be able to reach you ;(

  It does indeed happen, the extra option might not be such a bad idea, I also was thinking about trying the default port first then using the custom port.
