I would suggest something more radical: completely disable possibility to set sidebar width to 0 width. For 0.10 I'm pretty sure to have fixed that: If you drag the sidebar to size 0, it will be converted to a hidden sidebar (as if hidden by clicking the active tab), and can be shown again and restored to the previous size by clicking a tab.
