I inserted a DVD, for the first time, and the daemon dialog windows popped up asking me what I wanted to do. I selected "Play DVD with Kaffeine" and also checked "Always do this for this type of media" and clicked ok and Kaffeine went on to open.

I goto Kcontrol -> Peripherals -> Storage Media, select DVD Video Disk from the Medium Types select menu under the Notifications tab. This presents me with the same 4 options when I first inserted the DVD (Open in New Window, Rip Video DVD Title with K3b, Play DVD with Kaffeine and Do Nothing). I select Play DVD with Kaffeine Toggle as Auto Action and "(Auto Action)" disappears. Click apply. Insert DVD and it is opened automatically with Kaffeine. I go back to verify if the setting took and it does not.

I *CAN* select other options and they do save and take effect.

I realize that I can select Do Nothing and simply right click on the mounted volume but this is not intuitive behavior. I should be able to disable the Auto Action and have the original dialog window ask me what I want to do...

What file stores this user setting? I would like to disable this auto action manually as the front end seems to not do it.

I would also like to comment that I have compiled (from sources under Gentoo) eariler versions of KDE and those also exhibited this same behavior. Additionally, it appears that the media in question makes no difference. Once toggled on, you cannot get that 'what would you like to do?' window ever again.

I bumped into the same problem; the relevant file is ~/.kde/share/config/medianotifierrc. Even though the interface shows no "auto action" the last activated auto action remains in that file. If you clear the file's contents by hand, the dialog box returns.
