also happened on Feisty 7.0.4 PPC on my Apple Powerbook G4. After some prints (using PDF-output and a HP PCL5 Laserjet 5si-driver), the daemon dies and printing is no longer possible: (sorry, German translation): "Fehler bei der Druckausgabe. Das System meldet: Abhängiger Druckprozess kann nicht gestartet werden. Der KDE-Druckserver (kdeprintd) ist nicht auffindbar. Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Server läuft." This may be related: the gs-backend returns an error on some files (maybe the whitespace is still a problem? see also bug #40294): A print error occurred. Error message received from system: Abnormal process termination (gs -q -dSAFER -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=$out{/media/grexdox/Medien/DVD-Authoring unter Linux_Marco Kraus.pdf} -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -c .setpdfwrite -f '/tmp/kde-grexe/kdeprint_8Lg4Ylui' I tried to PDF-print the page at: http://www.kraus.tk/publications/DVDauthoring-Artikel/dvdauthoring.html I can reliably produce this condition on OpenSUSE 10.3 x86_64 by trying to print from Google Maps. Abnormal process termination (gs -q -dSAFER -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=$out{/home/USERNAME/print.pdf} -sPAPERSIZE=letter -c .setpdfwrite -f '/tmp/kde-USERNAME/kdeprint_AUQ9HbCZ' ). Unfortunately, I don't see any errors in any cups logging or other system logging files, other than the one below: localhost - - [04/Nov/2007:17:45:11 -0500] "POST /printers/ HTTP/1.1" 200 256 CUPS-Get-Printers successful-ok localhost - - [04/Nov/2007:17:45:11 -0500] "POST /classes/ HTTP/1.1" 200 224 CUPS-Get-Classes successful-ok localhost - - [04/Nov/2007:17:45:11 -0500] "POST /printers/ HTTP/1.1" 200 112 CUPS-Get-Default successful-ok localhost - - [04/Nov/2007:17:45:11 -0500] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 384 Get-Jobs client-error-not-found Here are some of the installed packages: ghostscript-fonts-std-8.15.4-3 ghostscript-library-8.15.4-3 ghostscript-x11-8.15.4-3 ghostscript-fonts-other-8.15.4-3 kdebase3-3.5.7-87 xorg-x11-libXprintUtil-32bit-7.2-60 libgimpprint-4.2.7-178 gutenprint-5.0.1-1 xorg-x11-libXprintUtil-devel-7.2-60 xorg-x11-libXprintUtil-7.2-60 yast2-printer-2.15.6-4 Are you trying to print to a printer or to a pdf file? Hi Cristian, I am trying to create a PDF from Konqueror using the print to PDF functionality of KDE. The screwy thing is that I can output to a PS file and then use ps2pdf to convert it. Also, it doesn't always appear to happen. Some web pages print to PDF fine. BTW- I can confirm the error happens trying to print to PDF from Konqueror at the URL listed above: http://www.kraus.tk/publications/DVDauthoring-Artikel/dvdauthoring.html I think you're falling on a bug of Qt generating PS v. 3 data, on which ghostscript chokes when trying to convert to PDF. This is already described in the bug database. Sorry for being too tired right now to be able to sift through all the bugs (perhaps the closed ones should be included too) to find the previous reports. There is some option that you can pass to ghostscript (by modifying your system's kde3/share/apps/kdeprint/special.desktop, the ps2pdf command) I'm terribly sorry for being so vague, I have no more than these few minutes right now. Thanks for your understanding. Cristian, I'm sorry I don't know what this means, what to search for, or how to take action on this information. KDEPrint is obsolete, unmaintained and will never be revived. Closing all open bugs. |
