Hello,
I would like to suggest that an option be included in the project settings such that a project can be automatically archived upon closing Kile. The various archived files could be differentiated by the inclusion of the date/time into the filename. Advanced features could include the ability to automatically delete archives that are older than a certain date and the ability to only save archives on a daily basis (overcoming the issue of open and closing the program multiple times in one day and creating a large number of archives).

The reason I suggest this option is my own stupidity has caused me to lose a couple days worth of writing and an automatic archival tool would have helped recover the work.

Hello,

you know that from all opened files, backup files with extension ~ ( and depending on your setup also with extension .backup) are created?
But actually I like the idea of archive creation on project closing.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the suggestion on the backup files with the ~ extension, I didn't think of that at the time of my trouble. Oh well, I've basically rewritten all the lost work and its probably better than the first time anyway.
