Kate has nearly everything I need to be able to give up xemacs.

However, it's missing one critical feature - the ability to create 'keyboard macros'.

By 'keyboard macros', I mean the ability to (1) press a shortcut to 'start recording keyboard macro', then (2) type a few keystrokes for some repetitive operation, then (3) press another shortcut to 'stop recording keyboard macro', and from then on, (4) repeatedly press another shortcut to 'play back' (execute) the keystrokes I've just recorded.

With this feature, kate with its existing capabilities (javascript API, arbitrary bindings, multi-pane, syntax highlighting etc) would have enough to replace emacs.

Many thanks in advance if you can see your way clear to implementing this feature in the very near future.
