Version:           1.9.6 (using KDE 3.5.6 "release 31.3" , openSUSE )
Compiler:          Target: i586-suse-linux
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.18.2-34-default

There is a checkbox in a kmail folder properties - "notify on unread messages" (I don't know exactly english translation). If I unset this checkbox, kmail continues to notify me, until I restart kmail. After restart, all works propertly.

The setting is called "Act on new/unread mail in this folder" in english (just added this for easier report searching later on)

Alive on kmail 1.11.0 (KDE 4.2.0)

Works fine in 4.4.5
