When I start my computer no IP address is assigned to it by my Wireless router. The interface is configured to use dhcp (all this is particular to Kubuntu, but gives the context of the situation).

When I check the network setting the interface is marked as disabled, whenever I try to enable it nothing happens. Then I provided an IP address (it seems like any IP address will do) enabled the interface, disabled it, configured it to use dhcp, enabled it again, and it works.

In my opinion the interface should become enabled whenever one says so, and if this does not happen one should be able to find error messages easily in order to troubleshoot any problems.

Clarification: I am not using a wireless card, the router provides wireless but my computer is actually wired to one of the ethernet ports in the router, so the dhcp failure is related to a standard network card, nothing to do with wireless protocols.

Probably a NetworkManager 0.6 bug.  0.7 has a new DHCP layer.  I assume this was in NM.
