It would be cool if you could turn on fancy formatting and keep smileys as text. Personally i don't like those graphic icons and i think they are less readable than plain text.

Hello,
this will not be changed.
This option only affect display of smileys and bold/italic/underlined text. So adding an option to not display smiley would be too much
