As a keyboard enthusiast, I'd like to be able to switch to any open application as quickly as possible with the keyboard. Since the window list that pops up on alt+tab contains the windows in "least recently used" order, it's quite inconvenient to look for a window that was used say hours ago and I have many windows open (which is typically the case). Usually what happens is that I iterate through the list several times before I actually spot the window I need.

A great solution would be if this popup list provided an incremental-search-like facility, e.g. I would press a certain key combination, then would type 'kon' and the list then would be filtered for windows the titles of which start with 'kon' (e.g. konsole, konqueror instances) - of which I could select the one I need with the cursor keys.

Or is this feature already included in some form? (A separate - even command line - application would do fine as well, e.g. if I could say 'kswitchwin kon' - even though it wouldn't be the real thing.)

I looked around but haven't been able to find anything similar.
