Kopete does not allow for breaks to be entered into the user's status message.  When viewing others' status messages, Kopete translates the breaks by simply inserting a "br" tag.  Many people desire to format their status messages, and such functionality should be included in Kopete.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
