Most of the time chatting is something you do concurrently aside from more serious work. That is why it would make sense to open the kopete window always on the current desktop when clicking on the kopete system tray icon.
At the moment kopete gets assigned to a specific virtual desktop as soon as you open a kopete window there. If you forget about this and you click on the system tray icon later on you are going to find yourself on a totally different virtual desktop (Kopete will switch to the virtual desktop where it has been opened before). Very Confusing!!
A behaviour like this may be good for other types of applications but I believe it makes no sense for an instant messenger like Kopete!

Ok KDE4,  when you click on the kopete systray icon, the main window is opened to the current virtual desktop.

tested with KDE4 :
Only chat windows are summoned to the current virtual desktop.
Almost more important than summoning chat windows is summoning kopetes main window. It still does not work for the main window!

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
