Description Dave Reite 2007-01-12 23:47:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs
Compiler: gcc version 4.1.1 20060525 (Red Hat 4.1.1-1)
OS: Linux

While using Konsole, while using a single session or multiple sessions in tabs, the currently running session will occasionally hang unexpectedly. Other tabbed sessions (if open) are still available and responsive. The hung session can be closed using Session/Close Session. New sessions can be started normally. This happens quite frequently (two or three times over a seven hour workday). From my experience, it appears to always occurs during user input, either straight keyboard entry or pasting text. It occurs whether or not I'm using vi/emacs/other text applications, or during ssh sessions to other machines so it doesn't appear application specific.

Hello Dave,

Can you try a couple of things to get more debugging information:

1. Start xterm and run Konsole from that. When a Konsole session hangs please post the most recent output shown in the xterm.

2. When a session hangs, start ksysguard and go to the process list. Tick the "tree" box underneath the list and scroll down to find the entry for Konsole. Underneath the Konsole branch there should be one process shown for each running session in the terminal. eg. If you have 3 tabs open there should be 3 bash processes listed under Konsole (or whatever program is being run in the terminal)

Hi Robert,

Thanks for having a look. I've started an xterm session and ran Konsole from that as you suggested. So far I haven't had a single session hang in four days! *rolls eyes*

I'll give this a go for another couple days, then try starting Konsole from the desktop again and see if that makes any difference. Sound good?

Murphy's law :)

I am closing this for now unless you still have problems?
