When the same version of KMail runs on two different machines on the same IMAP-Account, then all new messages appear once, twice, three times, four times and so on when kmail checks for new messages. This means:

o you start KMail on both machines
o the IMAP-Account has 5 new Messages, both clients show this correctly
o then they begin polling, e. g. they check for new mail every 10 min.
o now, they show 10 new messages (the original 5 messages twice)
o next time, they show 15 new messages (the original ones three times)
o ... and so on

This does not happen with other clients such as opera, when multiple instances are
connected to the same IMAP account.

This bug is not the same as the already listed bug nr. 95:064: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95064. Messages are not duplicated, new messages are shown n times for n checks.

I just want to add a note: this strange behavious stops when the other kmail instance crashes. (Segfault)

Unchecking the "Check mail on startup" checkbox in the "Configure Kmail" dialog under the "Accounts" tab solves the problem for me.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
