Description Degand Nicolas 2006-11-19 21:24:32 UTC
Version: 0.9.0-beta3 (using KDE 3.5.5, Debian Package 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-4 (4.0))
Compiler: Target: x86_64-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.18-2-amd64

The pictures from my camera are created with upper-case names. Sometimes, I want to rename them in lower-case. Now, in the renaming context menu, you are unable to modify the extension (for example from JPG to jpg). It would be better to be able to modify the entire name of the file, including the extension.

It's in opposite of this B.K.O file #117375.

This is why we have removed the capability to change picture filename extensions.

Gilles Caulier.

Personnaly, i'm not favorable to give the capability to user to change filename extension. This is can be dangerous (lost picture), especially with beginneers.

But, something can be done in camera gui to file upper/lower case of filename. Are you tried all options avaialble in 0.9.0 release with cameragui ?

As I use a smartphone which use a proprietary USB protocol, I am forced to reach my pictures through a Bluetooth connection using the OBEX protocol. So I do not use cameragui.

Maybe putting an option to restore the ability to modify the extension hidden somewhere in the Configure Digikam dialog ?

In future cameragui will be used for every import. So you could import
from phone to catalog, and later from that catalog using "importgui".
I think it is better to wait than reintroduce dangerous feature through
the back door.

I do not understand the process involved but I expect you know what you are doing :)

Unfortunately I am only speaking, not doing.

Maybe small clarification. Currently you can use cameragui only when
importing directly from camera.

camera -> cameragui with all goodies[1] -> Digikam

[1] Including lowercasing of filenames.

In future it should be possible to use cameragui to import images from
all places

everywhere -> cameragui -> Digikam

This is b.k.o entry 131407. I believe implementation is planned in post
0.9 era. So in future you could import images from cell phone to certain
directory and later import it through cameragui with all its
possibilities.

What would be more interesting it is direct import of images from cell
phone into Digikam. I would suggest to close this bug and create new one
for cell phone import.

Since CameraGUI is now used to import images from everywhere I think it is time to close that report.
