Hi,

just tried dolphin [1] the other day and it had one really neat feature
(besides its slick interface): It remembers the view mode for each
directory. Say, you have a directory with many pictures, you will switch
to the image view mode, and if you later visit the directory again,
dolphin will remember that and automatically use the image view mode.
In konqui, if you switch the view mode, all directories are affected,
meaning, if I go up, the previous view mode is not restored.

For konqui, this feature would be even more useful than dolphin, because
konqui can (and does) embed a whole lot of kparts (e.g. CVS, SVN etc.).
Having konqui automatically switch to the kdesvn view mode, if I enter
one of my SVN directories would be extremely useful.
Atm. I have to switch to the SVN view mode manually after entering such
a directory, and have to switch back to the normal mode if I leave the
directory again. As this is quite cumbersome, I rarely use the
specialised view modes.

To get an idea, how it should work, just try dolphin.

Er, doesn't Settings->"Save View Changes per Folder" already do this?

Sort of, though not very reliably.
I often notice the following buggy behaviour:
1.) I start konqui in normal icon mode
2.) Change to a SVN directory, say ~/svn/
3.) Switch to SVN mode (using kdesvn)
4.) Press "go up" in toolbar to change back to ~
5.) Konqui doesn't switch back to icon mode but stays in SVN mode, which obviously creates an error message from kdesvn

Besides, it would be nice, if these properties would be stored in a user extended attribute, if the file system supports it.

Right now konqueror remembers the view mode for each directory for me, closing bug.
