It would be nice if one would not have to click on an image link to open that image in a new gwenview or whatever window. The Image could rather be embedded in the current chat window (sized to the chat window's width for an example). Of course this feature should be an option that is off by default and can be turned on for individual contacts to avoid misuse.

This has been done in KDE 4 with the url pic preview plugin.
