Description Peter Hvidgaard 2006-10-24 22:39:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Right now all my soundtracks are named 'OST - album_name(usually movie title)' and grouped under 'Various Artists', but I would much rather like them to be grouped under Soundtrack/OST. Maybe make a menu-entry like the 'Show under Various Artists' could be done, or Amarok detectes albums flagged "Soundtrack" and automaticly puts them there.
Same goes for Audiobooks.

I have started a thread about it here:

I think setting the 'album artist' to 'soundtrack' in a future version of amarok could do what you want to do. See also this report: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134202

Any other implementation ideas?

Yes, but wouldn't that mess up the rest of the tags?

Ideel I think that Amarok should group all albums tagged with the genre 'Soundtrack' or 'Audiobook' together.

The request you are refering to, I belive has more to do with VA albums. I.E. I have a compilation mixed by Fatboy Slim - and want it to show under Fatboy Slim, but I also want to keep the individual artist tags.

well, you could choose 'order by' genre...
would not do in all cases, but just finding the required things - perfect.
Comment 4 Peter Hvidgaard 2006-10-25 11:27:48 UTC
That won't help in everyday use... I already have a "workaround", but the solution could be better.

I should not have to change the Collection view just to find something specific, that should just be where it is most logical, IMHO that means Soundtracks grouped under Soundtracks and Audiobooks under Audiobooks
Comment 5 Jannis Decker 2006-10-28 07:38:15 UTC
Wouldn't it be possible, to implement a more flexible way of managing the collection? Maybe a button in the collection-menu that says "Create new Collection" which then creates a second collection, where you can keep the Soundtracks or audiobooks.

Okay.. for Soundtracks it would be more usable, if they stayed in the "normal" collection, but grouped under Soundtracks, like Various-Artists-Albums, but I would like to have audiobooks IN the collection in amarok but OUT of the statistics. If I add my Audiobooks to my collection, amarok tells me I have about 1 Week more of music on my PC...

Too complex !

Closing as it is outdated, please reopen if necessary

I'm not sure I understand why it's complex? Giving the option to filter Soundtracks and Audiobooks into it's own group and just determine it after the genretag?

I have zero knowledge about Amaroks inner workings, but it sounds trivial to me in any decent implementation.
