I think it's a kdelibs problem related to the desktop you use.
What is your desktop ? (I suspect gnome since you are using ubuntu and
not kubuntu)

It is indeed gnome. I *think* killing dcopserver fixed it when this happened a while ago but it doesn't work now so I can't confirm.

See updated LP bug. This needs reassigning to kdebase though as It's happened to more than just kopete.
